Born on the small Greek island of Nisyros, John Catsimatidis immigrated to the United States with his family in 1948 and quickly became a true New Yorker, raised in Harlem. He went to school and worked in a grocery store until, just eight credits short of graduating from New York University, he was offered the opportunity to buy the grocery store. Today, that grocery business has evolved into the Red Apple Group, a conglomerate with interests in energy, real estate, aviation, baseball, entertainment, and media, including the iconic radio station WABC.
Media Connect promoted this book with great success during the fall of 2023. The Joy of Costco is a unique coffee table book starting with a history of Costco. It then featured fascinating factoids and points of interest about the company in a cleverly designed A to Z format. After six months in the marketplace, it has already sold close to 50,000 copies and has been covered by a wide range of media including the New York Times, Good Morning America, the Wall Street Journal, Today.com, People, and many other national and local outlets across the country. See below for a comprehensive listing. In addition, Media Connect provided media coverage during a nationwide tour by the authors that included stops in as many as ten cities, including major coverage in NYC and Seattle where Costco is headquartered. We also arranged for several book talks at bookstores, libraries, and book festivals.
MEDIA CONNECT executed a boutique campaign for Containing Big Tech: How to Protect Our Civil Rights, Economy, and Democracy (Fast Company Press), by tech policy advisor and privacy expert Tom Kemp. The book exposes the consequences of Big Tech's digital surveillance, exploitative use of AI, and monopolistic and anticompetitive practices. Kemp offers actionable solutions to these problems and a clear path forward for individuals and policymakers to advocate for change.
While MEDIA CONNECT was retained to pursue media for Dr. Haseltine’s recent books, Aging Well and Voices in Dementia Care, we saw an immediate opportunity to bring his expansive knowledge to bear on the coronavirus. We quickly switched gears and secured top level placements for Dr. Haseltine as an expert in the health field. Dr. William Haseltine, a former Harvard Medical School professor and founder of the university’s cancer and HIV/AIDS research departments, also serves as Chair and President of the global health think tank, ACCESS Health International. Dr. Haseltine was at the heart of the United States response to the HIV/AIDS and anthrax crises.
MEDIA CONNECT was retrained to execute a boutique campaign for Trailblazer: From the Mountains of Kashmir to the Summit of Global Business and Beyond (Greenleaf Book Group), which is a powerful memoir by Farooq Kathwari about his extraordinary journey. His story begins in a politically divided Kashmir, and goes all the way up to becoming the president of Ethan Allen -- where he transformed the company and became one of America’s most successful and admired CEOs.

TESTIMONIALS
Thank you for your excellent work promoting our book, Vital Factors - The Secret To Transforming Your Business and Your Life. As you are aware, Vital Factors was our first book and we were novices at the fundamentals of promoting a business book. Our decision to work with your firm was based upon your extensive experience promoting business books and we are not disappointed. I sincerely appreciated your consistent coaching and advice as we executed the book campaign. This spirit of teamwork and collaboration made a difference. We learned a great deal about promoting a book and we can also apply many of these principles to future PR efforts. Your weekly updates kept our eye on the ball as we moved the campaign forward. I will continue to recommend you and your firm to business associates who want to gain national exposure for their books.
